Mourning cards

Among the funeral prints held in the collections of the University Library is a collection of memorial prayer cards dating from 1880 to 1964. Originating in the Netherlands and widely distributed in German-speaking countries and France, these small printed items, containing basic information about the deceased and often a photograph, were handed to mourners during funeral ceremonies or shortly thereafter. These documents come from the archives of, among others, the Branicki, Czarnomski, Czartoryski, Grocholski, Haller, Henckel von Donnersmarck, Krasicki, Krasiński, Konarski, Kwilecki, Lanckoroński, Lubomirski, Łubieński, Potocki, Radziwiłł, Sanguszko, Sapieha, Sobański, Sokołowski, Szołdrski, Świeykowski, Tarnowski, Windisch-Graetz, Wodzicki, Włodkowicz, Zamoyski, and Żółtowski families. The Library's holdings also include memorial cards Helena Modrzejewska, Piotr Wawrzyniak, Adam Fedorowicz, Zygmunt Łoziński, and Jacek Woroniecki.
