The collection of historic postcards, particularly those depicting Poznań and Greater Poland, constitutes the largest iconographic collection of the University Library in Poznań – the richest source of knowledge about the city’s appearance at the turn of the 19th century. The oldest postcards date back to 1891, but the most extensive and systematic urban and architectural documentation of Poznań was created between 1895 and 1915. Historic postcards are an invaluable source for learning about the past, offering exceptional and multifaceted cognitive value. The collection of Greater Poland postcards is fascinating and diverse, featuring towns both larger and small, as well as villages, settlements, and hamlets, each represented to a greater or lesser extent in this iconographic archive.
